Week: 9 # 23 In Summary

Enjoyed the journey around the internet and what it has to offer.
Blogging is interesting. I tried taking my blog a few different ways as someone had a criticism about some of them.
Congratulations to everyone who attempted using this program and completed their Blogs.

Week: 9 # 22 Dowloadable Audio

If you download audio books from internet it won't be interesting. However, the ability for our patrons to download audio books through us, from a site is an interesting concept. The computer plays up even for the most adept user, think fo all the technical difficulities.

Week: 9 # 21 Podcasting

For a library, I think it would be good to podcast interviews with local residents for local history projects, or even podcasts of speakers that come to the library if permission is granted.

Week 8: # 19 Discovering Web 2.0 Tool

RealTravel was my selection.I looked at a few prize winning sites to travel but personally I felt that this was the best as it proved a lot more useful information than just booking flights. There are blogs and forums on all kinds of subject.
They have free trip planner and also travel deals available. I do not think it is applicable to libraries apart from library staff planning their holidays.
This is my link to Realtravel.

Week 8 : # 18 Web - Based Apps / Zoho Writer

I tried to publish from Zoho but it came up with a message saying trouble with Blog posting.

It seemed to have everything you would need for writing. I also looked at some of the templates which seemed good.

It appears that the java script generates a link only to their site and you need to log in to view the document, which sort of defeats the purpose. This is my link to my Zoho.

Week 7: # 17 Playing around with PBWiki

I managed to add my vote for favourite animal to dogs. This was very straight forward and the mystery of a wiki is now solved for me.

I had fun playing with the wiki

A bit of trouble with all the brackets but much easier to cut and paste than to fiddle around with formatting.

Week 7: # 16 Wikis

The scoop and usefulness of wikis to library communities is almost endless.
The upside is what we, as a library community, can do with them! One of the wikis I liked, having explored a few for obvious interest reasons, was "romancewiki"

I think a wiki could be useed very succrssfully in the library by allowing patrons to add comments to the catalogue in the forms of reviews and comments.

Week 6: # 16 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

When working in the library we must make sure to be up to date with all ways of accessing information. Maybe through library blogs as the centre point where the technology and the users meet would also fill the need.
To a temporary place in time by Dr Wendy Schultz

Points I liked from Schultz article:
  • "The library is everywhere, barrier-free, and participatory"
  • Librarian "superstars"
  • Developing participatory relationships with customers

Week 6: # 14 Tehnorati

I am a bit doubtful about Technarati. Maybe by practising more I will have more confidence but I have to say it certainly does what it says it will do.

Week 3 #7

Technology has influenced the development of society.
The history of technology largley parrells the history of invention.
Many technological developmentsthat benefit society are accompanied by harmful effects. Some products of technology as motor vehicle emissions, industrial waste, and insecticides have some damaging effects on people, animals and plants. The majority of industrial countries face problems of air, water, soil and noise pollution.
